You know what’s impressive and deserves a nod of respect? The fact that aol.com is still around, that you can still access your old email account. I have an old America Online account and I’m surprised that even 30 years later the email address is still valid / I can still access it. I don’t use it except for testing but it’s just impressive they’ve kept peoples emails alive for 30+ years and going. Respect.

I was never a big fan of AOL, I outgrew them fast and switched to ISP’s. But none of my email addresses from all those ISP’s I must have gone through in the 90’s and early 2000’s era are still valid, most ISP’s have been sold, re-sold, their domain names long gone or defunct. And yet my aol.com email address is still valid, lol.

Respect AOL for keeping these emails alive all these years later. I almost want to switch to my old aol.com email address as my primary just to see the look on peoples face when I give my email address to them, lol. Almost. But not quite. I’ll stick to my domain based email, I’ve owned my domain since ’99 and so my emails based off my domain have been working for 25+ years as well.

I just wish AOL had kept ICQ alive. I still remember my 7 digit ICQ number. What I loved most about ICQ was that it would queue up IM’s you received while you were offline, and you’d get them when you logged back in. Even AOL Instance Messenger and Yahoo Instance Messenger and MSN chat didn’t have that capability back in the day.
