Replaceable human bodies & medical science
I wonder what would happen w/ medical science if we were suddenly able to, relatively inexpensively, transfer our consciousness to a newly grown body. How much it would change everything.
I mean, why bother researching and curing cancer, or do heart transplants or knee joint replacements, etc. etc. etc. if we can just switch to a new body. I mean, in one sense, I’d expect a LOT of current medical knowledge and research to now become obsolete or unnecessary, and there would be a noticeable halt on advancing any of that knowledge. Why bother trying to cure XYZ disease or injury? But there would also be a lot less deaths over illnesses and injuries, it would make an interesting impact on society as a whole. Imagine every “athelete” in peak performance, no injuries ever. But what about death, what if you could be near immortal just by switching to a newer/younger body every 30 or so years. The population growth would become overwhelming if death wasn’t as much of a thing.
I know there’s some tv series about it but the one I can think of made it very very expensive to switch bodies, so only the rich had access to it. But what if it was something accessible to all more or less. How much would society change, how much would medical science stop progressing.
